“Find a subject you care about and which you in your heart feel others should care about. It is this genuine caring, and not your games with language, which will be the most compelling and seductive element in your style. I am not urging you to write a novel, by the way — although I would not be sorry if you wrote one, provided you genuinely cared about something. A petition to the mayor about a pothole in front of your house or a love letter to the girl next door will do.” ~Kurt Vonnegut
“I am intrigued by inanimate objects. They’re a piece of history, someone’s statement and ideas of life.” ~Mike Mills
You have been given the intriguing power of being able to bring inanimate objects to life. What happens when your favourite objects awaken? What is their personality like? What stories do they tell you? Are they indifferent, amicable or difficult?
Do you have a germaphobic toothbrush? Does your favourite pen write you a “Dear John” letter? Does your well-loved old sweater thank you for your loyalty? Does your journal start questioning you about what you’ve been writing? Does your VCR reminisce about “the good old days”? Has this power become a blessing or a curse?
Get creative, write and have fun! 🙂
“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” ~ Earl Nightingale
What would you do if you were given an infinite amount of time to pursue a dream? Would you go for it? Would you start as soon as possible or would you wait until the “right” moment? What reasons would you tell yourself for waiting? What would you gain by waiting or what would you lose? Even if you weren’t given infinite time, would you still pursue your dream?
Reflect and write!
